Two of the evening teaching sessions will include separate children’s program sessions; the other sessions will not include a children’s program. We will also offer optional babysitting (additional cost) on two separate mornings. \nCost:\nFor volunteers (ages 14 and up) who work the full week\, there is no cost! After retiring from the Army he served seven years as the Chaplain to the Corps of Cadets at the Virginia Military Institute. Since then they have been traversing the nation\, seeing new things and visiting old friends. Bob also serves on the OCF Council. \nTopic: “Grace\, Grit\, Glory and Good: A Study in The Book of Titus” \nThe book of Titus teaches us how to: find our identity\, live and lead with uncompromising Christian values\, and stand for truth — even when we’re immersed in a world filled with division\, arrogance\, and moral decline.  Paul’s letter to Titus\, though short\, is filled with many practical\, life-affirming principles that empower us to live our faith boldly and to make an impact on the world around us. \nGuest Ambassadors: TBD \nMake a Reservation

SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #2: Homeschooling Week
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Tegan Truitt \n  \nTegan Truitt is a father\, homeschool graduate\, and PhD student in George Mason University’s Department of Economics\, where he teaches undergraduate economics. His passion for teaching led him into academia\, and he and his wife Bethany (another homeschooler) intend to homeschool their children. While he had to pick one discipline to specialize in (Econ)\, he maintains interests in music\, poetry\, philosophy\, history (especially church history)\, and chess. When not reading aloud together\, the Truitts enjoy hiking\, board games\, and hosting friends. \nTopic: “Education and the Cultivation of the Soul” \nTegan brings his experience as a lifelong student and professional educator to bear on two chief questions of homeschooling: Why you should consider homeschooling? How to homeschool well? Tegan argues for a vision of education where its material aims — things like getting a good job\, or going to a good college — take a backseat. Instead\, teachers should primarily order education toward helping the student to see God in His creation\, and His image in other persons\, and parents are often the best-positioned to become this kind of teacher. \nGuest Ambassadors: Lt Col Scott Crabtree\, USAF (Ret.) and Capt Colleen Crabtree\, USAFR \nMake a Reservation

SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #8: Medical Week
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nRoc & Bev Bottomly\nRoc and Bev Bottomly have been providing marriage training nationally and internationally to both singles and couples for the past 20 years. Roc is a USAFA ’69 grad who majored in Astronautical Engineering. After graduation\, Roc received his M.S. at Purdue\, finished UPT\, and served as a flight instructor in T-37’s and a transport pilot in C-141’s. Bev grew up in southern California. She trusted Christ in college; and after graduating\, she joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU) where was the first staff woman in their military ministry. Soon after graduation\, Roc met Bev; and after a lengthy long distance friendship (Georgia to California)\, Roc finally “awoke” and they married. After completing military commitment\, Roc graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary\, and spent the next 35 years as the Senior Pastor of four churches and the Senior Fellow for Marriage Studies at the Focus on the Family Institute in Colorado Springs. In 2016\, Roc “retired\,” and he continues to work with Focus on the Family providing marriage training to Arabic speaking pastors in the Middle East and coaching to pastors\, ministry leaders and young businessmen in Oklahoma City. Roc and Bev have been married since 1974. They have  our grown children and thirteen grandchildren. \nTopic:\n“Building a Thriving Marriage”\nAs all know well\, the pressures on military medical marriages can be enormous. The combination of long hours\, heavy workloads\, difficult work situations\, promotion requirements and repeated deployments can take a heavy toll on the best of marriages. This year the theme will be “Building a Thriving Marriage” and the sessions will provide an opportunity to heal your bruises\, refocus your direction\, and rekindle your passion. Whatever the state of your marriage – from “Really Good” to “Struggling Mightily” – come join us\, and give your marriage the opportunity to really thrive. \nGuest Ambassadors:\nDr (COL) Arnie Ahnfeldt\, USA (Ret.) and Dr (COL) Jeff Ginther\, USA (Ret.)\nNote:\nWe are prioritizing medical personnel (doctors\, nurses\, pharmacists\, etc.) for Medical Week reservations until May 15. If you are not a medical professional\, please consider signing up for a different week of Summer Celebration. If this is your only available week to attend Summer Celebration\, please contact our Front Office team at (719) 395-2328 or reservations@springcanyon.org\, and we will assist you with reservations. \nMake a Reservation

SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #7
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nKeith Peck\nKeith has served in pastoral ministry for the past 45 years. For 30 years\, he and Gale ministered in Annapolis\, where their church supported the Nav\, Cru & OCF ministries at USNA. Keith and Gale now serve OCF in the role of Pastoral Care. They are blessed with 5 children and 17 grandchildren (who live in 5 different time zones). \n\nTopic:\n“Ecclesiastes: When All You Ever Wanted Isn’t Enough”\nEcclesiastes begins with “the words of the Preacher”. Yet as you read\, it is unlike any sermon you’ve heard. The sermon’s theme is “meaningless\, meaningless”. This seems so strange. And yet its strangeness provides an honest portrayal of the common human experience of people everywhere as we grapple with the perplexities of making life work “under the sun”. Solomon’s strange sermon invites us to engage this perplexing life more fully “under the SON”. \nGuest Ambassador:\nTBD\nMake a Reservation

Upon God’s call in his life to ministry\, Chris attended Dallas Theological Seminary and received his Masters in Theology (ThM). SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #5
DESCRIPTION:Speaker(s):\nDr. Del Tackett\, Lt Col\, USAF (Ret.)\nDr. Tackett served over twenty years on active duty in the United States Air Force\, including four years on the faculty of Air University and as Deputy Commander of the 47th Communications Group supporting the multinational NORAD command. He also served on the White House staff during the George H. W. Bush Administration\, and as Director of Technical Planning for the National Security Council. He served as Senior Vice President of Focus on the Family and President of Focus on the Family Institute in Colorado Springs\, CO. He Dr. Tackett developed and is the speaker of the Truth Project. He lectures extensively on developing a Christian world view and America’s Christian heritage for Summit Ministries and at conferences and churches around the country. \nWhile Del was working in national security at the White House under US President George H. W. Bush\, the Lord began breaking his heart for the state of the nation and the church. He was burdened that so many believers had lost their biblical worldview—they weren’t looking at the world around them through the lens of Scripture. \nAfter leaving the White House\, Del helped start a seminary where the founders hoped to begin addressing these shortcomings. To systematically teach a biblical worldview\, Del compiled a comprehensive curriculum that became the basis for the Truth Project\, a DVD curriculum distributed by Focus on the Family. \nTopic:\nThe Engagement Project\nIn the Engagement Project\, Dr. Tackett answers two important questions\, Why did Jesus leave? and Why does God send? The answers to these questions may turn your world right-side up. In this new series\, Dr. Del Tackett takes us on a series of worldview tours that reveal God’s endgame for all of us… what He is after. You’ll discover God’s world-changing mission for yourself and for your family and that Jesus has told us exactly what He wants us to do. In the Engagement Project\, you’ll learn why & how this will change everything. \nFind out more about the Engagement Project here. \nGuest Ambassador:\nMaj Ryan and Sarah Cross\, USAF (Ret.)\nMake a Reservation

DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nLt Col Kevin Boden\, ANG\n Kevin and his wife\, Wendi\, have 8 children and became homeschooling parents in 2008.  Kevin is a graduate of Wheaton College (IL) and received his J.D. from Seattle University.  Kevin served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years a Judge Advocate\, allowing he and Wendi to homeschool in three different countries and five states.  Kevin has served three years in the Alaska Air National Guard he continues his service as a Lt Col as a drill-status Guardsman.  Also\, as HSLDA staff attorney and Director of Global Outreach\, Kevin serves as the primary contact for members in 12 states and directs HSLDA’s international program\, working to expand homeschooling freedom around the world.  He is passionate about the freedom to homeschool\, the blessings of being a husband and dad\, and most things outdoors. \nTopic:\n“Gospel Seasons: Building Blocks for Home Schoolers”\nStacking blocks is often the first skill a baby learns. Why? It’s an important skill because it requires coordination. Similarly\, balancing the building blocks of homeschooling families also entails a synchronicity that often seems out of reach. This week will provide practical\, whole-family approaches to schooling at home from a Christ-centered worldview. Come and be encouraged as we consider the building blocks unique to home schooling families. \nGuest Ambassador:\nLt Col Aaron and Sarah Lynch\, USAF\nMake a Reservation

An uncharacteristic fight with his wife a few years ago revealed a glaring issue: he was clueless when it came to handling his emotions. \nThis West Point grad & former Army Ranger in the 82nd Airborne Division is now an EQ Practitioner and teaches Emotional Intelligence on his highly rated podcast\, EQ Gangster\, in his EQ Mafia Membership and through corporate coaching & consulting. \nDon’t let the big beard & tattoos fool you – Noble is pure positive energy & passion! He brings 23 years’ experience as an entrepreneur and international keynote speaker to help corporate clients\, entrepreneurs\, leaders & influencers get their emotions working for them\, not against them. \nHe has been married to Kathy for 27 years and they have a 15 y/o junior in high school. \nTopic:\nEmotionally Healthy Spiritual Leadership\nHow long have you been going to church? How many pastors or church leaders have you heard talk about emotions or emotional intelligence (“EQ”)? Probably not very many. \nOur EQ directly affects & impacts both our relationship with the Lord and how we lead & influence others. DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nKeith Peck\nKeith has served OCF as a conference speaker for the past 38 years. He recently retired after 45 years of pastoral ministry in the Presbyterian Church of America. Thirty of those years he and Gale served in Annapolis\, MD\, ministering to and with the Navigator\, Cru and OCF staff at the US Naval Academy. Keith has been married to Gale\, his ministry partner\, for 48 years. Keith & Gale have five children and seventeen grandchildren. \n\nTopic:\n“Daniel: Engaging a Polarized\, Hostile Culture as Salt\, Light & the Aroma of Christ”\nIn our current cultural moment\, outrage has become more expected than surprising\, more normative than odd\, more encouraged than discouraged\, more rewarded than rejected. Outrage over election “fraud”\, COVID politicized government “overreach”\, mask & vaccine mandates\, “social justice”\, LGBQT legislation. We no longer discuss. We rage\, cancel and shame…too often mean-spirited and quick-triggered. In this culture of outrage\, Bono\, the front man for the rock band U2 warned\, “We must be careful in our efforts to confront the monster not to ourselves become the monster.” So how do we engage this culture with a different spirit\, the Spirit of Christ\, and become the kingdom-influencers and culture-shapers we are called to be? Daniel illustrates God’s answer to that question. \nGuest Ambassador:\nCH(CDR) Jim and Shirley Ellis\, USN (Ret.)\nMake a Reservation

DESCRIPTION:Speaker(s):\nDr. Berkley Baker\nBerkley Baker served as an Army officer and has worked in healthcare for approximately twenty years. He serves as an elder at Hope and Life Fellowship and enjoys studying the Scriptures and teaching. He holds a doctorate from Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business\, an MBA from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University\, and a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Berkley lives in Lawrenceville\, Georgia\, with his wife and three children. \nTopic:\n“Purpose-Filled Living”\nPurpose can be defined as “the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.” Understanding purpose enables individuals and organizations to act consistently with who they are. But in the absence of purpose\, there is a void. There is nothing like observing something doing what it was designed to do. And like the eagle\, snake\, and ship\, our authored purpose allows us to accomplish amazing things. While living a life absent of purpose leaves us\, like King Saul\, grounded\, broken\, and bottomed-out. \nThis session is about awakening to purposed-filled living. It begins by exploring how an intimate knowledge of who we are predated our design. Together\, we will explore the foreshadowing of purpose amid an origin story—the hints of personal meaning. We’ll consider purpose and progression while looking at how immaturity can cause us to stumble along the way. \nWe will discuss practical steps to recognizing purpose by examining frequency\, focus\, and faculty. Specifically exploring\, what happens early\, often\, and habitually in our lives. What we pay attention to and what distracts us. We’ll explore the role of physical and mental aptitudes in purposeful living\, as well as so-called luck. In this journey\, we’ll take the time to consider purpose derailed through surrender\, failure\, and shortsightedness.  And finally\, we will conclude by discussing how purpose reinforces our connection with God and others. \nGuest Ambassador:\nCol Chet & Michelle Arnold\, Jr.\, USMC (Ret.)\nMake a Reservation

It is only as we realize and receive God’s love for us that we are able to do life’s most important thing… “Love the LORD your God… love your neighbor….” \nGod’s love… \n·        Ignites our desire.  It is the engine of our life with God.  It is what makes us want God and His way for our life.  “… for Christ’s love compels us….” – Paul. \n·        Provides our direction.  It is the steering wheel of our life with God. It is how we know what to do in the tumble of daily life.  “A new command I give you…. As I have loved you\, so you must love one another.” – Jesus. \n·        Describes our destiny.  It is our destination.  It is how we will all be in the wonderful End.  “But we know that when he appears\, we shall be like him….” – John. \nIn our times together\, we will explore what God tells us about His love from Him Word.  We will ask the Holy Spirit to help us get it.  We will think about where we need to reflect it to those closest. \nGod tells us that His love “surpasses knowledge”; so there is always more to understand and more to enjoy in this genuinely astounding wonder of life! \nGuest Ambassadors:\nDr (COL) Arnie Ahnfeldt\, USA (Ret.) and Dr (COL) Jeff Ginther\, USA (Ret.)

DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nPastor Keith Peck\nKeith and wife\, Gale\, who is also his ministry partner\, have served the White Sulphur Springs\, Spring Canyon\, and the U.S. Naval Academy OCF communities for the past 35 years. Keith is a PCA pastor and is currently on staff at Mercy Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg\, VA. Keith and Gale have 5 children and 17 grandchildren. \nTopic:\nHope: A Weary World Rejoices\n\n“Unprecedented”…a word we have repeatedly heard in the media during 2020-2021.  The unprecedented effects of the pandemic on our lives\, our economy\, our jobs\, our medical community.  The unprecedented speed with which the COVID vaccine was developed.  Throughout these unprecedented times\, another word on our hearts has been “HOPE”.  Hope for a vaccine\, for economic recovery\, for our political party\, for racial justice\, for a return to the normal of family gatherings\, school reopenings\, group hugs.  Someone has said we can live without almost anything\, except HOPE.  We are a hope-hungry people.  The prophet Isaiah is called the “prophet of hope.”  Together\, we will unpack the gospel of Isaiah’s hope-saturated prophecies and explore experiencing this hope in our uncertain\, painful world.\n\nGuest Ambassadors:\nCol Chet and Michelle Arnold\, USMC (Ret.)

DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nDr. \nTopic:\n“Walking WITH God in a Post-COVID World”\nJesus’ parents left Him in Jerusalem. The rich young ruler walked away from Jesus. Even Saul\, despite his religious lifestyle\, missed God. It’s sobering to think about how often people living for God found themselves almost living with Him. Dr. Baker will explore the reality of loving people leaving Jesus behind out of misunderstanding His divine nature. He will explain how experiencing godly miracles may still leave us eternally separated. We’ll examine how abandonment is a necessary part of our Christ-like transformation. We’ll discover how Jesus’ response to a woman caught having illicit sex teaches us something about intimacy. God designed us to have a dynamic\, personal relationship with Him. In introducing The Four Blends of Divine Nature®\, Dr. Baker’s goal is to awaken us to grow beyond the scripted life of living for God and move us into the abundant purpose-filled life of living with Him. \nGuest Ambassadors:\nRoyce and Shawn Bervig

\nTopic:\n“The Engagement Project”\nIn the Engagement Project\, Dr. \nGuest Ambassadors:\nCol Steve and Miriam Shambach\, USA (Ret.)

All stories have a bit of drama which is defined as “an exciting\, emotional\, or unexpected series of events or set of circumstances.” This aptly defines God’s unfolding plan of redemption in scripture and in our lives. We learn from stories where we came from\, who we are and about our family background and roots. Stories inspire us\, sober us and ground us. The Drama of Marriage weaves together the three most important stories in our lives. The Biblical story\, your personal story and your married story. Common elements in all three are Beginnings\, Brokenness\, Wilderness\, Gethsemane and Reconciliation. Where are you and your marriage in these 3 stories? This week will explore these stories intersections and be an encouragement to press on in the race marked out for us. \nGuest Ambassadors:\nCol PK and Lindsey Carlton\, USAF

SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #1 (Homeschool Week)
DESCRIPTION:Speaker(s):\nWesley Dickinson\nWesley Dickinson is a rare homeschool parent\, because he’s a stay-at-home\, homeschool dad.  Moreover\, he directs a Classical Conversations Foundations and Essentials community of almost 30 families near Offutt AFB in Omaha\, Nebraska\, where his two children attend.  His educational background\, outside of homeschooling\, includes a bachelor degree and a master degree in civil engineering with teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  He and his wife\, Mindy\, will celebrate their 12th anniversary this year.  She is patient\, and his daughters are adventurous.  Wesley also enjoys spending time in the woods\, at the range\, studying Latin\, evangelizing classical education\, and cooking as often as possible. \nTopic:\n“CC Practicum: The Art of Grammar”\nClassical Conversations’ 2021 Summer Practicum focuses on Attending to the Essentials: The Art of Grammar.  Our daily goal is to inspire and equip parents eager to become confident “everyday educators.”  The encouragement of community\, the insights of other lead learners\, and the hands-on practice we’ll enjoy will build assurance and skills—for learning and for teaching! This summer\, we will work on “attending to the essentials” of English grammar!  As we dig into these basics\, we’ll uncover the beauty in the foundations of our language\, and we will discover the treasures waiting to be explored with our families.  Together we’ll mine those riches waiting to be excavated\, understood\, and displayed as we become better readers and writers because we know our language from the roots. \nGuest Ambassadors:\nCH (Col) Paul and Debbie Sutter\, USSF
