SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #7 (Call for Availability)
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nPastor Keith Peck\nKeith and wife\, Gale\, who is also his ministry partner\, have served the White Sulphur Springs\, Spring Canyon\, and the U.S. Naval Academy OCF communities for the past 35 years. Keith is a PCA pastor and is currently on staff at Mercy Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg\, VA. Keith and Gale have 5 children and 17 grandchildren. \nTopic:\nHope: A Weary World Rejoices\n\n“Unprecedented”…a word we have repeatedly heard in the media during 2020-2021.  The unprecedented effects of the pandemic on our lives\, our economy\, our jobs\, our medical community.  The unprecedented speed with which the COVID vaccine was developed.  Throughout these unprecedented times\, another word on our hearts has been “HOPE”.  Hope for a vaccine\, for economic recovery\, for our political party\, for racial justice\, for a return to the normal of family gatherings\, school reopenings\, group hugs.  Someone has said we can live without almost anything\, except HOPE.  We are a hope-hungry people.  The prophet Isaiah is called the “prophet of hope.”  Together\, we will unpack the gospel of Isaiah’s hope-saturated prophecies and explore experiencing this hope in our uncertain\, painful world.\n\nGuest Ambassadors:\nCol Chet and Michelle Arnold\, USMC (Ret.)

SUMMARY:FTA #5 (Daughter)
DESCRIPTION:Mentor:\nCol Kim Hawthorne\, USAF (Ret.)\nKim became the sixth Center Director of Spring Canyon in December 2013. A 1986 graduate of USAFA\, he retired with almost 28 years of service as an aviator in the T-37\, EF-111\, F-15E\, and T-53. He commanded at the squadron and group levels. Kim first attended Spring Canyon in 1982 during a USAFA work party. He and his wife\, Kari Ann\, met at Spring Canyon and were married there in 1990. A Wheaton College graduate\, Kari Ann first experienced Spring Canyon with her family in 1969. Kim served 15 years on the OCF Council\, most recently as Council Vice President\, and together he and Kari Ann served 25 years on the Spring Canyon Advisory Council. They’ve been blessed to pass this legacy on to their three children\, Ki\, Erin\, and Amy Grace\, third generation attendees who all served on Spring Canyon staff. The Hawthornes pray that Spring Canyon will be for you what it has been for their family all these years: a home away from home\, where you can reconnect in the Rockies. When you come\, may you taste of Christ’s Living Water and be refreshed on your journey\, equipped with solid biblical teaching\, and inspired to continue to serve where God has placed you.

SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #6
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nDr. Berkley Baker\nBerkley Baker served as an Army officer and has worked in healthcare for approximately twenty years. He serves as an elder at Hope and Life Fellowship and enjoys studying the Scriptures and teaching. He holds a doctorate from Georgia State University’s Robinson College of Business\, an MBA from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University\, and a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Berkley lives in Lawrenceville\, Georgia\, with his wife and three children. \nTopic:\n“Walking WITH God in a Post-COVID World”\nJesus’ parents left Him in Jerusalem. The rich young ruler walked away from Jesus. Even Saul\, despite his religious lifestyle\, missed God. It’s sobering to think about how often people living for God found themselves almost living with Him. Dr. Baker will explore the reality of loving people leaving Jesus behind out of misunderstanding His divine nature. He will explain how experiencing godly miracles may still leave us eternally separated. We’ll examine how abandonment is a necessary part of our Christ-like transformation. We’ll discover how Jesus’ response to a woman caught having illicit sex teaches us something about intimacy. God designed us to have a dynamic\, personal relationship with Him. In introducing The Four Blends of Divine Nature®\, Dr. Baker’s goal is to awaken us to grow beyond the scripted life of living for God and move us into the abundant purpose-filled life of living with Him. \nGuest Ambassadors:\nRoyce and Shawn Bervig

SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #5
DESCRIPTION:Speaker(s):\nDr. Del Tackett\, Lt Col\, USAF (Ret.)\nDr. Tackett served over twenty years on active duty in the United States Air Force\, including four years on the faculty of Air University and as Deputy Commander of the 47th Communications Group supporting the multinational NORAD command. He also served on the White House staff during the George H. W. Bush Administration\, and as Director of Technical Planning for the National Security Council. He served as Senior Vice President of Focus on the Family and President of Focus on the Family Institute in Colorado Springs\, CO. He Dr. Tackett developed and is the speaker of the Truth Project. He lectures extensively on developing a Christian world view and America’s Christian heritage for Summit Ministries and at conferences and churches around the country. \nWhile Del was working in national security at the White House under US President George H. W. Bush\, the Lord began breaking his heart for the state of the nation and the church. He was burdened that so many believers had lost their biblical worldview—they weren’t looking at the world around them through the lens of Scripture. \nAfter leaving the White House\, Del helped start a seminary where the founders hoped to begin addressing these shortcomings. To systematically teach a biblical worldview\, Del compiled a comprehensive curriculum that became the basis for the Truth Project\, a DVD curriculum distributed by Focus on the Family. \nTopic:\n“The Engagement Project”\nIn the Engagement Project\, Dr. Tackett answers two important questions\, Why did Jesus leave? and Why does God send? The answers to these questions may turn your world right-side up. In this new series\, Dr. Del Tackett takes us on a series of worldview tours that reveal God’s endgame for all of us… what He is after. You’ll discover God’s world-changing mission for yourself and for your family and that Jesus has told us exactly what He wants us to do. In the Engagement Project\, you’ll learn why & how this will change everything. \nGuest Ambassadors:\nCol Steve and Miriam Shambach\, USA (Ret.)

SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #2
DESCRIPTION:Speaker(s):\nJim Ellis\, CDR\, USN (Ret.)\, PhD\nJim Ellis is the Pastor in Residence and Adjunct Bible Faculty at Huntington University in Peoria\, AZ. He spent 7 years in the Coast Guard and 24 years as a Navy Chaplain. Upon retirement from the Navy he was a professor at Union University for 7 years and a Department Chair and Dean at Arizona Christian University for 6 years. Jim was the Pastor of Counseling at Redemption Church in Peoria for 3 years and is still an active Elder. He has trained military chaplains and pastors who serve the military in Vietnam\, Ukraine\, Bulgaria and other countries. He has been married for 43 years to Shirley. They have 3 daughters\, 2 sons in law and a grandson\, Griffin. \nTopic:\n“The Drama of Marriage: Finding Our Place”\nStories are an important part of our lives. All stories have a bit of drama which is defined as “an exciting\, emotional\, or unexpected series of events or set of circumstances.” This aptly defines God’s unfolding plan of redemption in scripture and in our lives. We learn from stories where we came from\, who we are and about our family background and roots. Stories inspire us\, sober us and ground us. The Drama of Marriage weaves together the three most important stories in our lives. The Biblical story\, your personal story and your married story. Common elements in all three are Beginnings\, Brokenness\, Wilderness\, Gethsemane and Reconciliation. Where are you and your marriage in these 3 stories? This week will explore these stories intersections and be an encouragement to press on in the race marked out for us. \nGuest Ambassadors:\nCol PK and Lindsey Carlton\, USAF

SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #1 (Homeschool Week)
DESCRIPTION:Speaker(s):\nWesley Dickinson\nWesley Dickinson is a rare homeschool parent\, because he’s a stay-at-home\, homeschool dad.  Moreover\, he directs a Classical Conversations Foundations and Essentials community of almost 30 families near Offutt AFB in Omaha\, Nebraska\, where his two children attend.  His educational background\, outside of homeschooling\, includes a bachelor degree and a master degree in civil engineering with teaching experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  He and his wife\, Mindy\, will celebrate their 12th anniversary this year.  She is patient\, and his daughters are adventurous.  Wesley also enjoys spending time in the woods\, at the range\, studying Latin\, evangelizing classical education\, and cooking as often as possible. \nTopic:\n“CC Practicum: The Art of Grammar”\nClassical Conversations’ 2021 Summer Practicum focuses on Attending to the Essentials: The Art of Grammar.  Our daily goal is to inspire and equip parents eager to become confident “everyday educators.”  The encouragement of community\, the insights of other lead learners\, and the hands-on practice we’ll enjoy will build assurance and skills—for learning and for teaching! This summer\, we will work on “attending to the essentials” of English grammar!  As we dig into these basics\, we’ll uncover the beauty in the foundations of our language\, and we will discover the treasures waiting to be explored with our families.  Together we’ll mine those riches waiting to be excavated\, understood\, and displayed as we become better readers and writers because we know our language from the roots. \nGuest Ambassadors:\nCH (Col) Paul and Debbie Sutter\, USSF

DESCRIPTION:Speaker(s):\nKim Hawthorne\, Todd Plotner\, and Andy Truitt\nKim Hawthorne is the Center Director of Spring Canyon Retreat and Conference Center in Buena Vista\, CO\, and President of the Christian Camp and Conference Association (CCCA) Rocky Mountain Section.  A 1986 graduate of the Air Force Academy\, Kim retired as a colonel after almost 28 years of service as a fighter pilot in leadership positions. Kim and his wife\, Kari Ann\, have three adult children\, who have all served at Spring Canyon and now serve the Lord in other arenas. \nTodd Plotner is the Director of Operations at Spring Canyon Retreat and Conference Center.  Todd is a 1993 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy\, where OCF and the Navigators were foundational in helping him take ownership of his faith and begin leading small groups.  Todd served 21 years as an Army Corps of Engineers officer\, retiring after serving as ROTC Professor of Military Science at Washington State University.  Todd and his wife Andrea have been married 25 years and have three sons: Everett (23)\, Brian (20) and Nate (16). \nAndy Truitt is the Director of Interns and Outdoor Leadership at Spring Canyon Retreat and Conference Center.  A 1993 graduate of the Air Force Academy\, Andy served as Finance/Budget Officer for six years\, and then followed a calling to many diverse professional opportunities.  Most recently\, he served as National Director for a Christian\, classical\, home school organization.  Andy and his wife\, Heidi\, who is a 1994 graduate of the Air Force Academy\, have three sons:  a senior in college\, a sophomore in college\, and a senior in high school. \nGuest Ambassadors:\nJosiah & Hannah Bedrosian\nTopic:\nFighting the Good Fight of Faith\nThe Word of God tells us that while serving in life it will be a “fight.”  What does that mean\, and how should it impact your life and ministry?  Looking at various Scriptures\, three Spring Canyon Directors\, Kim Hawthorne\, Todd Plotner\, and Andy Truitt\, will characterize our “fight” and help us focus our daily walk to “finish” well and keep the “faith.”  You will walk away with a deeper understanding of how to passionately serve and lead in the workplace\, family\, and in the community\, as you strive to glorify God by finishing strong.  We all desire to say\, just as Paul did over 1950 years ago that; “I have fought the good fight\, I’ve finished the race\, I’ve kept the faith.  Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness.”
