SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #3: Homeschool Week
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nLt Col Kevin Boden\, ANG\n Kevin and his wife\, Wendi\, have 8 children and became homeschooling parents in 2008.  Kevin is a graduate of Wheaton College (IL) and received his J.D. from Seattle University.  Kevin served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force for 10 years a Judge Advocate\, allowing he and Wendi to homeschool in three different countries and five states.  Kevin has served three years in the Alaska Air National Guard he continues his service as a Lt Col as a drill-status Guardsman.  Also\, as HSLDA staff attorney and Director of Global Outreach\, Kevin serves as the primary contact for members in 12 states and directs HSLDA’s international program\, working to expand homeschooling freedom around the world.  He is passionate about the freedom to homeschool\, the blessings of being a husband and dad\, and most things outdoors. \nTopic:\n“Gospel Seasons: Building Blocks for Home Schoolers”\nStacking blocks is often the first skill a baby learns. Why? It’s an important skill because it requires coordination. Similarly\, balancing the building blocks of homeschooling families also entails a synchronicity that often seems out of reach. This week will provide practical\, whole-family approaches to schooling at home from a Christ-centered worldview. Come and be encouraged as we consider the building blocks unique to home schooling families. \nGuest Ambassador:\nLt Col Aaron and Sarah Lynch\, USAF\nMake a Reservation

SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #1: Work Week
DESCRIPTION:As you consider whether our Summer Celebration Work Week is a good fit for you or your family\, please review the details below. You’re welcome to contact our Guest Services team with any additional questions: (719) 395-2328 or reservations@springcanyon.org. \nWork week volunteers must be 14 years or older\, and should be physically able to work at least 8 hours each day\, completing manual labor tasks such as fire mitigation and wood splitting\, exterior building staining and repairs\, climbing ladders for roof repair\, etc. We will schedule a half-day off for all volunteers\, with optional activities like whitewater rafting (additional cost)\, indoor climbing wall\, etc. Volunteers\, guests\, and staff will gather each evening for engaging teaching sessions with our guest speaker. \nWe will offer a limited children’s program for ages 0-13. Two of the evening teaching sessions will include separate children’s program sessions; the other sessions will not include a children’s program. We will also offer optional babysitting (additional cost) on two separate mornings. \nCost:\nFor volunteers (ages 14 and up) who work the full week\, there is no cost! Volunteers still get the scheduled half-day off. \nFor all other guests who are not working the full week\, we offer a 20% discount from our standard Summer Celebration rates:\nAdults (14+) $608\, Youth (6-13) $365\, Children (3-5) $183\, Infants (0-2) $0. No other discounts are compatible with these rates. \nIf you plan to attend Work Week\, please register online\, then email reservations@springcanyon.org and let us know whether members of your family or group will attend as volunteers workers or guests. This will help us accurately plan and organize our work projects. \nThanks for considering giving your time and energy to help us tackle some larger projects at Spring Canyon\, your home away from home! \n \nSpeaker:\nNoble Gibbens\nNoble is the person you’d least expect to be talking about feelings & emotions! An uncharacteristic fight with his wife a few years ago revealed a glaring issue: he was clueless when it came to handling his emotions. \nThis West Point grad & former Army Ranger in the 82nd Airborne Division is now an EQ Practitioner and teaches Emotional Intelligence on his highly rated podcast\, EQ Gangster\, in his EQ Mafia Membership and through corporate coaching & consulting. \nDon’t let the big beard & tattoos fool you – Noble is pure positive energy & passion! He brings 23 years’ experience as an entrepreneur and international keynote speaker to help corporate clients\, entrepreneurs\, leaders & influencers get their emotions working for them\, not against them. \nHe has been married to Kathy for 27 years and they have a 15 y/o junior in high school. \nTopic:\nEmotionally Healthy Spiritual Leadership\nHow long have you been going to church? How many pastors or church leaders have you heard talk about emotions or emotional intelligence (“EQ”)? Probably not very many. \nOur EQ directly affects & impacts both our relationship with the Lord and how we lead & influence others. Let’s commit our emotions to the Lord so we can truly lead the way the Lord wants us to. \nMake a Reservation

SUMMARY:OCF Local Leader Conference
DESCRIPTION:A gathering of OCF Local Leaders–and those interested in becoming Local Leaders–who seek to develop a vision for grassroots ministry by studying the Word\, praying together\, and sharing lessons learned with peers. \nTo reach a dispersed and transient military community scattered across 4\,800 locations in 160 countries\, OCF makes an impact by engaging military leaders in biblical fellowship through small groups\, all led by Local Leaders. As Local Leaders around the world pursue the same vision of seeing the military community impacted through Christlike leaders\, it’s vital to set aside time to come together\, encourage and equip one another\, and be refreshed to go back to local ministries. \nTo that end\, OCF will host its annual Local Leader Conference\, an interactive\, workshop-based weekend in which attendees are participants\, not just recipients. Plenary sessions\, led by OCF Director of Field Engagement Hous Waring\, and a variety of practical workshops will enable Local Leaders–and those interested in becoming Local Leaders–to develop a vision for grassroots ministry. SUMMARY:Connections and Conversations Retreat #2
DESCRIPTION:The Connections and Conversations Retreat is for homeschooled students in grades 9-12 (ages 14-18). This retreat is designed to connect high school students to a larger community while engaging them in the art of discussion and building fun\, new relationships. There will be opportunities for fellowship\, discussion\, games\, rock climbing\, hiking\, possibly tubing if there is enough snow and more. This retreat is geared toward those enrolled in the Classical Conversations Challenge I-IV programs\, but all homeschooled students are welcome.\n\nAndy Truitt\, former Classical Conversations National Director\, will be leading the sessions and the parent chaperones will lead the breakout groups. Past students who have attended this retreat have said it was “life-changing” and “…wish I could do this several times a year.” \nOur discussion will be based on the book “Lord of the Flies” by William Golding. This is an excellent\, thought-provoking book that will also provide for great discussion. Every attendee (students and chaperones) MUST read the book BEFORE arriving on the first day of the retreat. You will not get much out of the retreat if the details of this book are not fresh in your mind\, so even if you’ve read it before please do so again to refresh your memory. You’ll also need to bring a hard copy of the book to the retreat with you. \nPlease plan to arrive between 6pm and 7pm on Thursday (no dinner available on the first night) and depart at 10:00am on Sunday. \nCost: $285 (plus tax) per student.  $150 (plus tax) per chaperone. Due upon sign up. The cost includes: 3 nights lodging\, 7 meals\, and all activities. Transportation is on your own. \nRead “Lord of the Flies” prior to arrival at Spring Canyon. \nIf you have any questions please call/text (303-406-8908) or email (heidi.truitt@springcanyon.org). \n\nRegister a Student\n \n \n \n Interested in chaperoning? As a chaperone you will need to read the assigned book ahead of time (before arriving for the retreat) so you are ready to guide the small group discussions during the retreat. Also\, please be prepared to help supervise the free time activities and help where needed throughout the weekend. No advance training is needed and all instruction will be given during the chaperone meeting on the first night of the retreat. \nRegister a Chaperone

SUMMARY:Winter Sports Retreat 2
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nCOL Kevin Bouren\, USA\nKevin Bouren is a Soldier in the Lord’s Army and served as a front-line ambassador for Christ while wearing the uniform of our Nation’s Army for more than 30 years. A native of Phoenix\, Arizona\, he is a 1997 Graduate of West Point\, commanded Soldiers in combat in Iraq\, and served in numerous combat and peacekeeping operations around the globe. Kevin is passionate about making disciples and helping them to fulfill the Great Commission. His service to the Nation and our Lord is enabled and enhanced by a thriving marriage to Adra\, his lovely wife of 25 years\, who changes the world one child at a time as a homeschool mom to their four delightful children: Kayla (20)\, Brady (17)\, Annalise (8)\, and Luke (6). They enjoy the outdoors\, mentoring officers through Officers’ Christian Fellowship\, and using their gifts to serve together on film sets as they proclaim Christ to the world. \nKevin and Adra have been actively involved in OCF since Kevin’s Plebe Year at West Point\, and they have continued to lead small group Bible studies while staying connected to the OCF community through White Sulphur Springs and Spring Canyon. Having just retired from the Army in October 2022—where they lived at 17 different addresses encompassing 9 states—the Bouren Family is now traversing the country in their RV. They are continuing their passion in Christian filmmaking and pursuing God’s next calling\, which includes building a multi-generational vision for their family in the context of great Christian community\, four seasons\, and snow! \nTopic:\n“Man Up: Going ALL IN for Jesus!” \nMen are commissioned to “man up” as husbands\, fathers\, officers\, ministers\, friends\, stewards\, and disciple-makers. As the darkness grows in our world\, so must the men grow up in the strength and authority of Jesus Christ to meet this darkness with the Light of God’s Word. This is a message targeted at men but it’s for everyone! If you have a father\, husband\, brother\, son\, or fiancé in your life\, or any other man you can influence\, then this week is for you! \nGuest Ambassadors:\nDr. (LTC) Luke and Karen Hofmann\, USA\nMake a Reservation

SUMMARY:Winter Sports Retreat 1
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nLCDR Eric and Melanie McMullen\, USN (Ret.)\nLCDR Eric McMullen has been involved with OCF for over 30 years\, starting as a cadet and midshipman at Virginia Tech\, where he and Melanie met. They have been married for over 25 years\, and are blessed to be able raise and disciple their three awesome children: Rebecca\, Andrew\, and David. Eric served a full Navy career – first as a Naval Flight Officer\, flying as a RIO in the F-14D Super Tomcat\, and a WSO in the F-18F Super Hornet/Rhino. Later he served as the Computer Science\, Cyber\, and Modeling and Simulation Program Officer at the Naval Postgraduate School. Upon retirement\, God called the McMullens into full-time missions work\, partnering with Russians to lead short-term missions trips to share the Gospel\, make disciples\, and train and multiply other believers. Eric and Melanie are passionate about the vision of reaching the world through personal evangelism\, discipleship\, and multiplication… until there’s No Place Left to do that!\nTopic:\n“Reaching ‘No Place Left’ in the Military and Around the World”\nDo you want to see the military reached for Christ?  The world reached for Christ?\nAs we prepare to celebrate our Lord’s Advent into our world\, we’ll take time to think about those we know who are still far from Him. As a former Navy fighter pilot\, I appreciate how challenging evangelism and disciple-making can be in our military setting. So in an engaging and interactive series of evening sessions\, we’ll talk about practical tools and bring in stories – both from the military context as well as from my recent experiences from the field of Russian missions.\nGuest Ambassadors:\nLTC Rob & Emily Kurz\, USA (Ret.)\nMake a Reservation

SUMMARY:Connections and Conversations Retreat #1
Past students who have attended this retreat have said it was “life-changing” and “…wish I could do this several times a year.” \nOur discussion will be based on the book “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien. \nRead “The Hobbit” prior to arrival at Spring Canyon.

SUMMARY:OCF Leading Women
DESCRIPTION:Uniformed female officers\, past\, present and future\, from all branches of service\, are welcome at Spring Canyon to be encouraged\, equipped\, and inspired in your Christ-like service and leadership!  We have lined up amazing female veterans who will lead sessions focused on the topic of “Come and Find Rest in Him\,” all based on passages of scripture. \nTopic:\n“Come and Find Rest in Him”\nSpeakers:\nKrystal Murphy\nDuring her 30-year military career\, Krystal moved 15 times\, deployed to the Middle East\, and traveled for temporary duty (TDY) more times than she can count. So\, she knows from experience how challenging it can be to find fellowship with people who “get” military women and the time and distance challenges of sustaining these relationships. So\, Krystal launched and currently leads 4 Word Women’s “Uniformed and Veterans” online community group. \nKrystal retired from the Air Force in June 2020. Her final assignment was in Stuttgart\, Germany\, where she served as the Deputy Command Surgeon for United States Africa Command (AFRICOM). At that time\, the AFRICOM surgeon’s office was responsible for the medical care of 13\,000 people deployed throughout Africa\, and for helping to build the public health\, healthcare\, and emergency-management resources of 27 African governments. Krystal has also commanded a medical group (hospital) and a medical squadron (multi-practice clinic). She also served as the 7th Air Force Surgeon General. \nHer primary career field (i.e.\, AFSC\, MOS) was Bioenvironmental Engineering\, and she still practices environmental health and safety in both the commercial and non-profit sectors. The impact of leadership and organizational culture on the well-being of employees is one of her passions and areas of expertise. \nKrystal has been married to one of her Air Force Academy classmates for more than three decades. He is also a retired Colonel. They have three adult sons. \nTami Waring\nTami is a 1984 graduate from the United States Air Force Academy. She served for 5 years in the AF as a Space Systems Analyst in Intel. After separating from the AF she followed her AF husband\, Hous\, around for over 24 years of his career. Tami and Hous have nine children and 16 grandchildren\, spread out in eight states. She homeschooled all her children and just sent the last child off to college in July of 2022. Currently Tami works for Officers’ Christian Fellowship (OCF) as the Staff Representative for Women’s Ministry. She enjoys reading and knitting in her free time. \nDiscounts:\nCompany Grade Officers qualify for discounts that lower costs to $110 (plus tax). \nCadets\, midshipmen and enlisted members qualify for discounts that lower costs to $75 (plus tax). \nLimited needs-based scholarships are available. May he give you the power to accomplish all the good deeds your faith prompts you to do. SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #7
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nKeith Peck\nKeith has served OCF as a conference speaker for the past 38 years. He recently retired after 45 years of pastoral ministry in the Presbyterian Church of America. Thirty of those years he and Gale served in Annapolis\, MD\, ministering to and with the Navigator\, Cru and OCF staff at the US Naval Academy. Keith has been married to Gale\, his ministry partner\, for 48 years. Keith & Gale have five children and seventeen grandchildren. \n\nTopic:\n“Daniel: Engaging a Polarized\, Hostile Culture as Salt\, Light & the Aroma of Christ”\nIn our current cultural moment\, outrage has become more expected than surprising\, more normative than odd\, more encouraged than discouraged\, more rewarded than rejected. Outrage over election “fraud”\, COVID politicized government “overreach”\, mask & vaccine mandates\, “social justice”\, LGBQT legislation. We no longer discuss. We rage\, cancel and shame…too often mean-spirited and quick-triggered. In this culture of outrage\, Bono\, the front man for the rock band U2 warned\, “We must be careful in our efforts to confront the monster not to ourselves become the monster.” So how do we engage this culture with a different spirit\, the Spirit of Christ\, and become the kingdom-influencers and culture-shapers we are called to be? Daniel illustrates God’s answer to that question. \nGuest Ambassador:\nCH(CDR) Jim and Shirley Ellis\, USN (Ret.)\nMake a Reservation

SUMMARY:Summer Celebration #6
DESCRIPTION:Speaker:\nGreg St. Cyr\nPastor Greg St. Cyr has a passion for global missions and the local church. He spent 13 years with Cru (Campus Crusade for Christ) where he met his wife of 36 years\, Mary Kaye. Greg served as a missionary for 8 years in Poland largely during communist days. For the last 27 years\, he has served as the lead pastor of Bay Area Community Church in Annapolis whose global ministry extends throughout the world. He has a master’s degree from Dallas Theological Seminary and a Doctor of Ministry in missions from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He and his wife have four grown children and six grandchildren. \nTopic:\n“Victory in the Valley\, Courage in the Cave”\nAll of us go through valleys of discouragement and trials.  The longer the trial and disappointment\, the darker the cave.  How do we experience God’s victory and courage in times like this?  We will look at David’s experiences in the cave of Adullam and Engedi\, as well as how to walk through the valley of trouble\, the valley of weeping\, and the valley of the shadow of death.  Learn how God often does His best work in valleys and caves! \nGuest Ambassador:\nCOL Keith and Sharon Morgan\, USA (Ret.)\nMake a Reservation
