Overview

While at Spring Canyon, you will stay at Camp Buxton in eight-person cabins and large, metal-frame tents. Showers and restrooms are available in a nearby bathhouse. Limited laundry facilities are available at Camp Buxton.

When to Arrive

Your session begins with dinner (1730 hrs) on Saturday and ends with breakfast (0830) the following Saturday. If driving yourself, we recommend that you arrive at camp for check-in between 1500 and 1700 on your arrival day to familiarize yourself with camp. Dinner at 1730 will be your first activity.

Arranging Transportation

You are responsible for arranging your own transportation to Spring Canyon. If you are traveling by air, you may request a ride to/from Denver International Airport (DIA) provided by Spring Canyon for $20/person, each way. If you are interested in this service, please contact Spring Canyon at least 3 weeks before your session. Spring Canyon does NOT provide this service to/from the Colorado Springs airport.

If you have requested a pickup from DIA by Spring Canyon, please schedule a flight arrival no later than 1230 on the day that your session begins. We are located 3 hours away from the airport so we can only make one trip for each session. If you arrive early in the morning, be prepared to wait until other participants arrive. If you need transportation to DIA for your return flight, please schedule your departure no earlier than 1400 hours on the last day of your session to allow adequate travel time from camp.

Watch for an Important Email

Approximately 3 weeks before your session, you will receive an e-mail with final logistics information (confirming transportation times, pick-up locations, etc.). This e-mail will be sent to the primary and alternate e-mail you provided in the registration. Please keep an eye out for this message as it will contain important information about making sure you get to camp!

Having the Proper Gear

Your activities during FTA will require the proper gear for you to fully enjoy your experience. Please review the packing list as a checklist to ensure that you bring all of the required items. Some items on the list can be provided by camp or are optional, and are noted as such. One of the most important pieces of gear is comfortable, broken-in hiking shoes or boots. We recommend footwear with ankle support as we will be hiking over uneven terrain with backpacks. If you don’t already have a pair, please plan to borrow or purchase some prior to arrival—and spend some time in them until they feel comfortable.

Get Ready Physically

Keep in mind that even normal physical activities are more strenuous at a high altitude. Spring Canyon is located at 9,000’ and we’ll go even higher. Preparing yourself physically will make your stay more enjoyable, and less prone to injury or altitude sickness. We recommend a regular routine of cardiovascular exercise if you are not doing so already.  If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call.
